During your visit to the top of Sulphur Mountain you begin your adventure by strolling the boardwalk to the Cosmic Ray Station and Sanson's Peak and learn about Canada's first national park. Then, head inside to explore the world-class mountaintop discovery centre. Fuel up on grab-and-go fare at Castle Mountain Coffee or enjoy an elegant meal at the award-winning Sky Bistro. Exceptional service and jaw-dropping vistas are hallmarks of all the summit dining experiences. ​

What to Bring...

Binoculars. Bug Spray. A jacket. Sunglasses. A backpack for water or snacks or trinkets you pick up a long way. 

 

Dining options at the Summit…

There are 3 restaurant options if you’re looking to stay for a full lunch (hour and a half to two hours), find the dining options here. For a quick bite, there’s a coffee shop on the first floor with sandwiches, pastries, cookies etc., grab and go drinks called “Castle Mountain”. As you exit the Gondola and continue through the tunnel, veer to the right and you’ll see the shop there.  

 

If you want to extend your stay at the Summit…

Once at the Gondola you can try, however this is subject to availability and the buses will only leave at the times designated above.

Also, there is a shuttle to and from the hotel to the base of the Gondola – if you wish to stay longer or go at a later time. Keep your Gondola ticket with you so you can get on the shuttle for free. If you go at a later time on your own; the shuttle leaves from the hotel @ The Motorcoach Entrance (a 30 second walk from the main entrance. Turn left when you walk out of the hotel). When returning to the hotel from the base of the gondola, you’ll be picked up from the same spot as drop off - they put a Gondola sign out with indication they are traveling back to the Fairmont. Everyone will receive their Gondola tickets when we arrive at the Gondola base Tuesday morning.

 

If you’re bringing kids – this is a great page to check out. I recommend downloading the Agents of Discovery app. It’s an interactive game app that uses your location to guide you through hidden challenges like discovering different nature views and wildlife in various locations. They really seem to cater to kids in Banff, overall.
